Count words and characters
HandyKitz counts words, characters, sentences and paragraphs instantly while you type. It also estimates how long the text takes to read.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is estimated using an average reading speed of approximately 200 words per minute.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Your text is processed directly inside your browser and is not sent to the HandyKitz server.
Practical example
Use the counter to review a draft against a word or character allowance. Words are separated by whitespace; reading time is an estimate, not a measured reading speed.
Enter Hello world. to see 2 words, 12 characters and 11 characters without spaces. Emoji can use more than one JavaScript character unit.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the word count differ from my editor?
Words are separated by whitespace here. Hyphenated text without spaces counts as one word, and languages without spaces may need a different counting method.
Can one emoji count as several characters?
Yes. The character count uses JavaScript string length, so some emoji and combined symbols occupy multiple UTF-16 units.
Why does pressing Enter not always add a paragraph?
Paragraphs are separated by blank lines. A single line break inside a block does not create a new paragraph in this counter.
