Image Compressor

Make your images smaller directly in your browser.

1 KB = 1000 bytes. Target mode adjusts quality without resizing. Some limits cannot be reached; check each result before downloading.

Compress images online

HandyKitz reduces image file sizes directly inside your browser. Your images are processed locally and are never uploaded to our server.

What image formats are supported?

The compressor currently supports JPG, JPEG and WebP images.

Does compression reduce image quality?

Yes. JPG and WebP use lossy compression. Lower quality settings generally produce smaller files but may reduce visible image quality. The default 80% setting provides a useful balance for many images.

How to compress a JPG or WebP image

Select a JPG, JPEG or WebP image, then adjust the quality setting. Start at the default 80% and inspect the result before choosing a lower setting.

Download the compressed image and compare its file size and appearance with the original. If the file is still too large, try a lower quality setting or reduce its pixel dimensions with Image Resizer.

In quality mode, a quality setting is not a target file size: 80% quality does not mean the file will be 80% of its original size. Results depend on the image content and its existing compression.

Practical example

Compression changes how an image is encoded, rather than its width and height. Inspect small text and detailed areas before choosing a lower quality.

For a 2000 × 1500 JPG, try 80% quality and compare it with the original. The output remains 2000 × 1500; the resulting byte size depends on the image, not a fixed reduction percentage.

Compress an image to a KB limit

Choose Target file size and enter a maximum such as 100, 200 or 500 KB. Each image has its own limit, with 1 KB equal to 1000 bytes. The tool searches for a fitting quality while preserving pixel dimensions.

A result is marked Target reached only when its actual size is at or below the limit. If the limit cannot be reached, the smallest tested result is offered with a warning. Try the Image Resizer to reduce dimensions before compressing again.

Frequently asked questions

Why was the original image kept?

If re-encoding produces a larger file, the original is kept instead. In target mode, an original already within the limit is retained without recompression.

Can this tool make a very large photo smaller in pixels?

No, compression keeps the original pixel dimensions. Use Image Resizer first if you also need a smaller width or height.

How does downloading several compressed images work?

Add up to 10 images and choose a shared quality setting or a maximum KB limit for each image. Each result states whether the target was reached. Download All starts separate downloads, not a ZIP file.
