Decimal and binary sizes

Decimal units use powers of 1000: 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes. Binary units use powers of 1024: 1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes and 1 GiB = 1024 MiB. The converter multiplies by the source unit size, then divides by the destination unit size.

Interpreting the result

These are byte units, not bit rates. A size of zero is valid, and fractional quantities are supported. The display uses up to 12 significant digits to avoid distracting floating-point artifacts; extremely large quantities are approximate, not exact byte accounting.
